Bio

Beatriz Ruibal is a visual artist who resides in Madrid.

Her work based on photograpy, video, and installation art.

Her most personal works explore a preoccupation with the representation of absence through spaces, settings and objects. Concepts, which are related to the fragilty of contemporary existence.

Her videos and videoinstalations have been shown in art centres such as Real Jardín Botánico (Madrid) PHotoEspaña 2014 (official selection) , Casa encendida (Madrid) , LaBoral (Gijón ), XIII Mostra International Contemporary Art Gas Natural Fenosa MAC Museum of Contemporary Art (A Coruña, Spain), and International such as the Spanish Cultural Center CCMEX (México) National Museum of Fine Arts (Havana,Cuba), Casa de las Américas (Havana, Cuba) Biblioteca Museu da República e da Resistência (Lisbom, Portugal ). Her films have been screened at international festivals as Venice Experimental Cinema and Performance Art Festival 2015, 4th Bangalore Shorts Film Festival, India, FIVAC International Festival of Video Art at Camagüey (Cuba) International Festival Photography and Visual Arts PHotoEspaña 2014, FIVAC International Festival of Video Art in Camagüey (Cuba), Festival Ellas Crean, Cuba. Cultural Department of the Spanish Embassy in Cuba , Festival Miradas de Mujeres 2014 (Madrid, Spain), XII Week of Contemporary Art in Asturias 2014.

Specific focuses on her work have been developed in places as Festival Ellas Crean Cuba, ISA University of the Arts of Cuba, EFCH School of Creative Photography of Havana, CCMEX Spanish Cultural Center (México). She has been invited to show their work at universities such as University of Fine Arts in Havana, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras Universidad Complutense de Madrid , Duke University.

She has published “MADRE” Varasek Ediciones, Madrid 2014. It was selected from the shortlisted in The Best Photography Book of the Year at PHotoEspaña 2015 Biblioteca Nacional de España, The Photobook Exhibition, Benaki Museum. Athens Photo Festival 2015, The Project Library.Dublín. Photoirland 2015. and ” Carretera Central ” Aldeasa, Madrid 2005.

Her works are represented in collections of various institutions, among which are the Fondos de Arte Contemporáneo de la Comunidad de Madrid; CA2M Collection, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas; Madrid CSIC, Fundación RAC Rosón Arte Contemporáneo, Fondos de Arte Contemporáneo de la Xunta de Galicia, Fondo Cubano de la Imagen Fotográfica (Havana, Cuba)

Ruibal has received different awards for her artistic work, such as Grant ALNORTE 2013, Second Place Sociedad y Mujer Award 2003, Comunidad de Madrid. Honorable mention, Second Biennial of Contemporary Photography (1995, Havana, Cuba). Imágenes jóvenes Injuve 1992, Comunidad de Madrid.

Currently she has several projects in development : “Absents In Havana” (Video-Instalación fotográfica), “Undersea poem” (video Experimental).
